Rattlesnakes are typically found in tall grasses away from people. They don’t seem to live in the sand dunes on the beach because we never hear about that. Of course, rattlesnakes are venomous but, if treated promptly, are rarely fatal. UTMB is one of the finest hospitals in the world so get over there right away if you’re bitten.

All rattlesnakes are classified as vipers which is a term derived from Greek. The rattlesnake populations are severely threatened by habitat destruction and poaching. If you see or hear one, just leave. It’s that simple! Better yet, stay out of the tall grass, especially on Bolivar Peninsula.
